GETTING HERE
... Easy to get to, hard to leave ...

By foot -- yes, loads of people have hitched here
and while we aren't permitted to recommend hitching to
anybody (of course!), we're told by
the people who have hitched here that Nova Scotia is one of the
friendliest places to hitch - surpassed only by Newfoundland!!! You'll
need a lift to Mahone Bay. Then you can just get a local driver to take
you to the hostel. If they don't know where it is (... we've only been
here 4 years already!....) tell them it's where "Between Friends"
second-hand clothing store used to be... or the old Mader's Cove
schoolhouse...

By Car or bike take Highway #103 to Exit 10 for
Mahone Bay. As you come off the exit you'll get to a T-junction: turn
right and that will take you into Mahone Bay. Pass the 3 churches, the
Irving station and you'll come to another intersection more Y-shaped
than T-shaped .. there's a monument in the middle of the road. You will
turn left there onto Main Street Mahone Bay. Stay on that road and
follow the shoreline for 3.5km and you'll get to our hostel, about 100 metres after you leave the water's edge. It's civic number 9466, and
there is a large yellow & white sign at the foot of the drive, as well
as a black & white New Zealand silverfern flag. |
By Shuttle
-- Use
Kiwi
Kaboodle, of course! The Kiwi shuttle departs from our
hostel each morning at 8.00am and heads to Halifax. There is a
scenic shuttle service which departs Halifax at 10.30am and comes here
via Peggy's Cove, Mahone Bay & Lunenburg. There is then a late-afternoon
shuttle from here to Halifax, and finally a direct shuttle service from
Halifax to our hostel (and surrounding areas) which departs Halifax at
6pm. There are other shuttles operating between
Halifax and Yarmouth as well, and any of those can bring you here: Campbell's
Shuttle, Amero Shuttle and Cloud Nine Shuttle. They all head from
Yarmouth to Halifax in the morning, and come back in the evening. |
By Bus
-- YES THERE
IS A BUS!!! Don't listen to anybody who tells you there isn't.
We know because it'll stop RIGHT AT OUR DRIVE!!
Trius
Tours operates a daily shuttle between Halifax and Yarmouth, and you
can ask the driver to drop you right at our drive. Tell him the hostel in Mader's Cove, 9466 Highway 3.
If you prefer, get him to drop you at the bus depot in Mahone Bay or
Lunenburg and we'll pick you up. As for the return trip, if you make arrangements
in advance they will pick you up at our gate, otherwise we offer a free
shuttle to/from Mahone Bay or Lunenburg, and you can catch the bus
there.
